Fighting began on the morning of 27 September 2020, with an Azerbaijani offensive along the line of contact established in the aftermath of the First Nagorno-Karabakh War (1988–1994).

After days of false accusations and concocting a ground for a military attack the Azerbaijani Armed Forces launched a major military operation against the Republic of Armenia, primarily using artillery and drones, along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border starting at 00:05
